The Spur Police Department will be organizing a Food and Toy drive this year to assist 15 Spur families with the makings of Christmas dinner and gifts for children, according to Chief Billy R. Spears. The department invites local individuals and businesses to donate a non-perishable food item and/or a toy to assist in the effort.
Lawrence Brothers IGA Grocery has graciously agreed to donate 15 hams for these families’ Christmas meals. Dana’s Pharmacy, Spur Hardware and Cap Rock Telephone have all agreed to make donations and also serve as dropoff locations for others to make their donations.
The school district will help in identifying needy recipients, Spears said.
The Spur Police Department will be gathering the items from these locations and will store and separate the items into family boxes for a December 24 delivery.
“At this festive time of year we ask that the citizens of Spur think of those less fortunate and donate, so we might share the Joy with our fellow man,” said Spears, who expressed his thanks in advance for the public’s support.
