The Bulldogs Revenge Season began in earnest Sept. 17 during a slugfest in White Deer, who beat the Dawgs last season 40 to 64.
After a delay waiting for the officials to show up, the Bucks won the coin toss and elected to receive, but the Bulldog defense held them to 3 and out.
The Dawgs came ready to show what they had when #8 Cory Hamilton carried for 37 yards for the score. The extra point kick by #25 Kayden Martinez was blocked, and Spur went up 6–0.
White Deer would answer back, taking the lead when #4 Karson Ketchum scored on a 4-yard run for the points and the Bucks’ conversion pass thrown by #3 Dusty Matlock to #66 Dakota Thomas was good. But this would be the last time the Bucks would lead.
On the kickoff the Dawgs, #2 LeZhane Walker ran it back 70 yards for a touchdown.
Then, on the next possession with 10 seconds left in the first quarter, #28 Ryan Davis ran for 30 yards for another Bulldog score and the Dawgs led at the end of the quarter 20–7.
Spur scored first in the second quarter when a pass by #11 Gunnir Bateman was complete to Walker for a 44- yard touchdown and the extra point by Martinez was good.
White Deer would score again in rapid succession as Ketchum passed to #25 Hayden Hill for the score and their extra points kick was good.
Spur fumbled, allowing Ketchum to retrieve the ball and run it 20 yards for the touchdown. The extra point kick was good, and Spur went into the half with the Bulldogs leading 28–23.
The Bulldogs came out fighting after the half as Bateman took the opening kickoff home for six. The kick by Martinez was good for the extra points.
Hamilton would add to the score with a 13-yard run for the score, and the 2-point conversion led by Davis passing to Walker was good.
The Bucks would once again score off a Bulldog fumble when Ketchum recovered and took the ball to the house.
Dawgs would answer right back when Walker on a 35- yard hustle run scored, and Martinez’ extra point kick was good.
The Bucks would score again on Ketchum’s 40-yard run to score. The extra point kick was good.
Hamilton would score the next two touchdowns for the Bulldogs, with the extra-point kicks by Martinez being good.
The Bucks would put up one last score on a 74-yard field goal just as the buzzer went off. But the Bulldogs prevailed with the final 75–51.
Coach Tate Clark said, “I thought the boys showed some mental toughness and figured out how to win a game late. We have struggled with ending games and fighting for four quarters. They proved that they can do it on Friday.
“Cory Hamilton and LeZhane Walker both had big games from the backfield,” said the coach. “Missing Nicholas Ortiz on the line on both sides of the ball hurt us. We figured out how to play without and fight through the adversity in the second quarter.”
