Spur staffer lands cleanup grant for city

Last week Spur city secretary Ashley Carothers was notified by the South Plains Association of Governments that the city had been awarded a Solid Waste Grant in the amount of $3,289.70.

Carothers had applied for the grant as one of her first initiatives upon being promoted to her post last year, with plans to set up and fund a community cleanup day with the money. Following the model of a cleanup event the city held several years ago, she expects the grant will cover roll-off waste containers, city labor, and promotion for the project, and expects to enlist school volunteers to help.

Carothers said the city woulld schedule the event for sometime next spring.
