Spur to welcome community, visitors for free parade, dance Saturday night

After the often lonely, cold and dark days of the pandemic Christmas season of 2020, Spur, Texas, is ready to have a healthier and happier celebration this year. (Can it really be that the day I’m writing this—December 13—is one year to the day since anyone received a Covid-19 vaccine? We hope everyone is vaccinated and feeling well these days!)

On the evening of Saturday, Dec. 18, Spur Hardware will host a lighted parade that’s being billed as the “First Annual Holiday Cheermiester Downtown Parade,” starting at 6 p.m. Participants are welcome to register by calling Michelle Bilbrey at (806) 269-1698; details are available at the Spur Farmer’s Market and Trade page on Facebook.

The Grinch is paying Spur a visit to serve as grand marshal for the event.

Following the parade, the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce will present another event new in the city’s recent memory—a Christmas Ball from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Show Barn in Swenson Park. The dance, featuring local favorite the Fabulous Sandbillies, will also offer a baked-goods silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and goodies at the concession stand. Admission is free.
