contest against Vernon Northside Friday night at Spur’s Jones Stadium, the Bulldogs beat the Vernon Northside Indians by enforcing the mercy rule, 52-6, early in the third quarter.
The Spur Bulldogs showed up to play for their last home game of the season. Facing adversity the entire season, the team has stuck together and worked their way back onto the field. This was the first game in four weeks in which eight of the ten players were back together.
The Indians won the toss and elected to receive. The Bulldogs’ defense held the Indians at fourth down, getting the ball back. The Bulldogs’ defense dominated the entire game. JD Hamilton led the tackles with 17 tackles, and Ace Walker trailed with 15 tackles.
Preston Abbott was able to cover long passes and picked off one pass for an interception. The energy was high, and the Bulldogs executed the defensive plays to hold the Indians to only one touchdown the entire game. The Bulldogs worked together as a team and made things happen.
Not only did the defense show up, but the offensive line was also impressive. Maragrito Pesina rushed for a total of 157 yards resulting in four touchdowns. Ace Walker rushed 86 yards and scored twice. The Bulldog team blocked and worked as a team to get these men into the end zone.
Head Coach Tate Clark said, “The boys played hard and the way I knew they could play all year. This is the first game that we have almost been fully healthy. We need to carry that confidence and energy to the Knox City game this week.”
The Bulldogs will play the last district game in Knox City Friday, November 3, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. Come on out and support the Bulldogs!
