AUSTIN — The County Information Resources Agency board of directors at the Texas Association of Counties honored Dickens County commissioner Mike Smith with an award during a meeting on Oct. 22 in recognition of his valued service as a member of the CIRA Board. Smith joined the CIRA Board in 2018. TAC CIRA provides information technology solutions to counties, including website and email hosting and support services.
TAC executive director Susan M. Redford praised the members whose term on the board was ending. “TAC thanks Mike for serving not only Dickens County as an effective commissioner but also all Texas counties as a member of TAC CIRA’s board of directors. His insights and commitment to success have proved critical to the services TAC CIRA provides.”
CIRA and its board started in 2001. CIRA board members are appointed by the president of the TAC board of directors, with the approval of those directors. CIRA board members serve a three-year term, and the board includes a chair, vice chair and secretary. Members have to be an employee or elected official of a county that is a member of CIRA. The chair of the CIRA advisory committee is a nonvoting, ex officio member of the board.
TAC CIRA provides email services to more than 120 counties, totaling more than 9,500 mailboxes, through vendor Rackspace. The Texas Association of Counties was established in 1969 to provide services to Texas counties and to promote the value of county government statewide. TAC is the representative voice for all 254 Texas counties and county officials. Through TAC, counties communicate the county perspective to state officials and the citizens of Texas.
