The likelihood is that Spur senior Jorden Zarate and Patton Springs senior David Reyna will never face each other at a track meet again.
The two young men who have grown up on opposite ends of the county, but with common goals, have crossed paths in life—and in the running lanes of track meets—since they were children.
Although opponents in running, in all other arenas they have much in common.
Consider how much they share.
• They were both born in Texas on the same day, February 21, 2003.
• They both share the same middle name of Matthew.
• They each have four siblings.
• They both are dear friends.
• They are both senior honor students in Dickens County schools.
• They each attend Sunday services at Freedom Church in Spur.
• They are both competitive runners, who began running against each other in the 6th grade.
• They both competed in the 2021 UIL Track & Field State Meet in two running events.
• They both plan to further their education at Texas Tech University in the fall.
The similarities of these two student-athletes are quite astonishing.
Given how much they have had in common up until this point in life, it’s exciting to contemplate what their futures might hold.
