With five starters returning on offense and four coming back on defense, newly named head football coach Tate Clark said he’s optimistic about the Spur Bulldogs’ chances this fall. “I think we’re going to have a pretty good year,” he said. “Ever since track season, players have been telling me they’re ready.

They’re hungry for it.” A graduate of Rule High School and Texas Tech University, Clark had been serving as assistant football coach since 2016, but was named head coach when Armando Solis took the top position at Petersburg last month. He said he expects that Ropes will be one of their toughest competitors this year. “They’re the team that knocked us out of the playoffs last year,” he said, “and I expect them to be tough again this year.” Spur plays in a district that includes Rotan, Ira, Aspermont and Hermleigh. Two-a-days start August 6, and the first scrimmage will be August 17 in Valley where the Bulldogs will take on White Deer.
