The decade-long tradition continues as teams from across the area will converge in Spur June 10-11 for FBC Spur’s annual Coed Softball Tournament. The roster is already full this year with teams from Idalou, Crosbyton, Jayton and Spur. The Can-Tex Mounties return to defend their title against a mixed field of regulars and newcomers.
There will be four games played Friday night, June 10, with the first pitch of the tournament at 7 p.m. Games will conclude around midnight on Friday and pick back up Saturday morning at 8 a.m. The championship playoffs will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, and the championship game will be played Saturday night at 9:45.
The coveted “Golden Facemask Trophy” is again the prize, as well as a team championship banner to be hung in future years.
The tournament is hosted by First Baptist Church of Spur as a fundraiser to help kids and teenagers go to church camp in the summer, so we thank everyone in advance for coming and eating at the concession stand. Depending on the camp, costs can range up to $450 for camp, this concession stand allows them to pay only 20% of that. The concession stand open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, June the 10, and from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 11.
We will also once again have the giant inflatable waterslide set up behind the concession stand to help all the kids stay cool and have some fun! To help offset the cost of the waterslide wristbands will be for sale in the concession stand for $10, which gives kids all-day access to the slide. The waterslide will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The Bahama Junks sno-cone stand typically sets up down in the left field corner to keep spectators cool and sweet for the whole weekend.
We always encourage fans to bring lawn chairs and even popup canopies and enjoy a wonderful time of friends and community under the shade trees at the Little League baseball field. We do remind that this is a family-friendly and church-sponsored event, so we strive to keep it free from foul language and alcohol.
