The Texas Brotherhood Ride made stops in Jayton at the Kent County Nursing Home and in Spur at the Farmers Co-Op this past Saturday.
The 501(c)(3) organization conducts a yearly, multi-day bicycle ride to raise money and awareness of Texas area first responder line-of-duty deaths. The bicyclists are active or retired firefighters, police, and EMS personnel whose mission is to provide support to the families, friends and communities who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
This year’s ride started in Maxwell, Texas, between San Marcos and Lockhart and culminated in Amarillo. The ride was from September 17 through September 23 and they paid tribute to nine first responders who lost their lives in 2023.
Riding seven days and over 550 miles, averaging 80 to 100 miles each day, they honored the following fallen first responders who were taken in 2022: David Evans, San Antonio Police Department; Jeffrey Richardson, Poteet Police Department; Kaitlyn Ritnour, Texas Department of Criminal Justice; Hunter Coco, Maxwell Community VFD; Jonathon Coco, Maxwell Community VFD; Anthony Martin, Austin Police Department; Barbara Fenley, Eastland County Sheriff’s Office; Curtis Brown, Dalhart VFD; and Brendan Torres, Dalhart VFD.
Through riding for the honorees and fundraising efforts, their aim is to provide emotional and financial support to the families and co-workers of fallen first responders.
