It’s not an infrequent occurrence that folks from near and far reach out with an artifact of interest to the Dickens County Historical Museum, or seeking more details about people who once lived here. When they do, it’s almost inevitable that they’ll wind up finding Harry Bob Martin.
Harry Bob shared with the newspaper an inquiry from a researcher in Bangs, Texas, with an enclosed typewritten letter dated July 28, 1942—during America’s involvement in the Second World War. The writer, Mrs. W. B. (Ella K.) Bennett of Spur, shares community news tidbits with recipient Mrs. Mae Hanna of Beaumont, Texas.
We won’t reproduce the entire two-page letter here at fully readable size, but if you know anything about the two parties to the correspondence, or are interested in Spur history of that time period, reach out to the Museum, or to Martin at documr@caprockspur. com—he’ll be glad to put you in touch with the owner of the letter.
