Snyder may use ARP funds to attract businesses
SNYDER—The Development Corporation of Snyder (DCOS) officials and several small businesses owners met with Retail Strategies, business recruitment consultants from Birmingham, Alabama last week.
“Linda Molina of the Chamber of Commerce and I have formed a good partnership between the chamber and the DCOS and we believe it is critical that we have business and retail opportunities here in Snyder,” DCOS executive director Douglas Dowler said. Lacy Beasley of Retail Strategies said her company helps towns with economic recovery by first supporting the businesses already in place by giving them resources to help supplement their business. The company also helps develop a strategic plan for downtown areas including backfilling vacancies and assisting property owners.
Then, to grow the marketplace, the company recruits new businesses that would benefit the community. Beasley said Retail Strategies offers resources such as market analysis, preparing for holiday season and business recruitment. The total fee for completion of work for Retail Strategies would be $245,000 payable in a 36-month period with an option to leave the contract after the first year. In order to pay for this service, the DCOS hopes that the city will allocate American Rescue Plan funds to cover part of the cost. The rest would be paid as a group effort by businesses in Snyder. The proposal will be presented to the City of Snyder for approval.
The City of Plainview recently worked with Retail Strategies and attribute their efforts to 14 new businesses moving to Plainview.

SMHD meets June 30 deadline for CARES funding
ASPERMONT—Clinic expansion, new EKG machines, new equipment for EMS programs and training programs were all a part of the federal CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) funding for the Stonewall Memorial Hospital District that deadlined June 30.
Administrators were also hoping to allocate funding to employee bonuses before the deadline expired.
For weeks, the administration, staff, medical providers and board members have been pouring over balance sheets and reviewing hospital needs to find ways of spending remaining funds within federal guidelines.
