‘First Thursdays Paint Night’ Aug. 4 at College on the Square in Snyder
SNYDER—Painting comes to life in First Thursdays Paint Night class as attendees will paint an acrylic succulent and accent the background with watercolor effects.

Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys to entertain at Post Stampede Rodeo Aug. 12
POST—Legendary West Texas Western Swing musician Jody Nix and his band the Texas Cowboys will be the featured band Friday, Aug. 12 at 9 p.m. in Post at the Stampede Rodeo Arena.
In 1996 Nix was inducted into the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame in Sacramento, California. In May of 2009, Nix and the Texas Cowboys were inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in San Marcos, Texas. In 2013 Nix was inducted into the Northwest Western Swing Music Society Hall of Fame in Washington State. In May of 2016 Nix was honored by the Cowtown Society of Western Music and received the Living Hero of Western Swing Award, and in June 2016 Nix was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame at the Heritage Museum in Big Spring, Texas.
Nix is West Texas Western Swing royalty as the son of Hoyle Nix, a contemporary of Bob Wills, who penned and recorded “Big Balls in Cowtown,” a Western swing classic, covered by a myriad of recording artists, including Bob Wills, Asleep at the Wheel and George Strait.
Hoyle Nix and his brother Ben formed the West Texas Cowboys in 1946 and patterned the band after Wills's Texas Playboys. In 1954 the Nix brothers built a dance hall on the Snyder highway just outside of Big Spring and named it the Stampede. Nix had already established a dance circuit in the area and was making regular appearances in other towns, including Abilene, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo.
The elder Nix died in 1985 and his son Jody took over leadership of the band.

‘Ragtown the Musical’ runs through Aug. 27 in Post
POST—“Ragtown the Musical,” the origin story of the city of Post, is back on the stage of Ragtown Gospel Theater and runs every Saturday at 3 p.m. through August 27.
Brothers Glenn and Chip Polk, founders of Ragtown Gospel Theater, grew up in Post hearing the legendary stories of cereal magnate C.W. Post and his dreams of a utopian city on the South Plains. They heard the tales firsthand from the people who were there alongside C.W. Post in the early part of the last century. Both brothers have memories of the Golden Jubilee, fifty years after the founding, when many of those early settlers celebrated the anniversary with attending Hollywood celebrities of the day: Danny Thomas, Spring Byington, and Danny Kaye, among others.
Post’s granddaughter, the glamorous Dena Merrill, had just made her 1957 film debut in a movie with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. Reigning over it all, including the unveiling of her father’s statue, was the regal Marjorie Merriweather Post, C.W. Post’s only child, and heir to his breakfast food empire.
All those original settlers are gone now, but the Polk brothers are doing their best to assure the unique story of their hometown’s founding is remembered. Tickets available at the website, www.ragtown.com, or call 1-877-RAGTOWN.
