Post adds 4-H, FFA event to Stampede Aug. 10-12 POST—ThePostStampedeRodeohasaddedanewyouth event during its three days of festivities.
The new event,“Grip for Grant,”is an opportunity for 4-H and FFA incoming juniors to seniors to compete in a calf scramble for their chapter or club.
“The Post Stampede is more than just a rodeo and concert in August,” explained Jon Wheeler, the Post Stampede president.
“We put on this event so that we can assist kids and groups in and around Garza County. When we put our heads together to come up with a way to give back, the traditional calf scramble came to mind.”
The way the “Grip for Grant” works is simple. Three twoperson teams will try their hardest to halter a calf and lead the calf into a circle drawn in the arena dirt. The team that gets to the circle first will be declared the winner. Simple, right? Well, if you have ever been to the Houston Rodeo or San Antonio Rodeo, you know it may get a little wild.
If you are a 4-H or FFA member and an incoming junior to senior, contact your advisor or ag teacher to enter.
WHO CAN ENTER ATWO-PERSONTEAM?
• Any 4-H or FFA Member who is an incoming Freshman to Senior.
COMPETITION RULES
1. A circle will be drawn in the arena.
2. All teams must begin inside the circle with their halters. 3. Calves will be released into the arena. 4. When the announcer says“GO”, teams will catch a calf and apply one halter to the calf.
5. The team must lead the calf to the winner’s circle. 6. The calf’s full body must be led into the circle, along with both team members.
7. The first team that completes the task will be declared the winner.

‘Sewing with Patterns’offered at College on the Square at WTC Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28 SNYDER—Remember when people used to sew clothing from patterns? The vintage brands such as Butterick, Simplicity and McCall’s harken back to a simpler time. But craftsmanship is timeless. College on the Square fromWesternTexas College will be offering Sewing Patterns on the Square with Jodi Sobotka for those who have been sewing awhile.
In the class you’ll learn:
• how to navigate selecting a pattern
• understanding all the terms within a pattern
• individualized instruction while creating your garment The class meets Mondays, Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and the cost is $40.
Attendees should supply the pattern and fabric of their choice, and bring their own sewing machine. Classes are for ages 16 and older.

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder to appear at The Coyote Store Aug. 19
GAIL—One of the giants of Bluegrass, Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder will appear at The Coyote Store Saturday, Aug. 19.
Skaggs, a 15-time Grammy Award winner, a Country Music Hall of Fame member and a Bluegrass Hall of Fame member, struck his first cords on the mandolin when he was nine years-old and by the time he was 21 was considered“a recognized master”of the art form.
