The 5-1A boys’ basketball season was ended by the Texline Tornadoes last week.
On Tuesday Texline defeated the Jayton Jaybirds 57–55 in Canyon in the regional semifinals game.
Jayton trailed Texline for most of the game, but came within striking distance in the final minutes of the game, but still fell short.
Then on Friday, Texline eliminated the Paducah Dragons.
Texline fell behind Paducah early in Friday’s Region I-1A championship game at Dimmitt, but rallied to tie it at halftime. The Tornadoes only picked up speed from there, taking the lead in the third quarter and putting away the game with a huge offensive fourth quarter to roll past Paducah 72-57 and reach the state semifinal.
The Final Four state matchups for 1A for the Class 1A state semifinals were to be:
Texline (24–4) vs. Eula (21–9), 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, Denver City and Slidell (28–3) vs Rocksprings (24–2), 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, Howard Payne University, Brownwood.
The winners of those games will play for the state championship at the Alamodome in San Antonio Friday, March 12. (Subject to change.)
