Set your calendars for Saturday January 6, 2024. Did you know that January 6th is Sherlock Holmes’ birthday? We are planning a very exciting event here at the library. There will be more details as they become available.
Laurie Murphy, who recently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer wanted her vast collection of books to be donated to the library. Her family recently brought several boxes full of donated books, DVDs, and office supplies to the library. We are very thankful for the donations. We will be working to get some of them on our shelves. Many of them will be offered by the Friends of the Library in their book sale room.
Apparently December 4th was National Cookie Day. Thank you to Carol Haefner for remembering us at the library and bringing some delicious macadamia cookies.
The T-Mobile Hotspot program is up and going strong again, thanks to South Plains Electric Cooperative and their Operation Round Up Community grant. We have some very appreciative patrons who are already taking advantage of the program. One patron said they had been having to sit in their vehicle outside the library to use our Wi-Fi after hours. They said the hotspot is helping them to access the internet from home now which is much better than having to do it from their vehicle.
Here are a few of the new books we’ve added to our shelves thanks to the grant received from the Tocker Foundation. From New York Times bestselling author, Heather Graham, we have a must-read mystery with “Voice of Fear.”
FBI agent Jordan Wallace is close to cracking the human trafficking case she’s been working, when she does the one thing she should never do: let her guard down. The botched undercover mission is semi-salvaged by the last-minute appearance of criminal psychologist Patrick Law, but Jordan can’t imagine making a worse first impression. Especially when she’s partnered with Patrick moving forward.
Also from Graham we have “Crimson Summer.” When FDLE special agent Amy Larson discovers a small horse figurine amid the bloody aftermath of a gang massacre in the Everglades, she recognizes it immediately. The toy is the calling card of the apocalypse cult that Amy and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating, and it can only mean one thing: this wasn’t an isolated skirmish— it was the beginning of a war. From New York bestselling author Nora Roberts we have the conclusion of the epic trilogy that began with “The Awakening” and “The Becoming.”
In “The Choice” Talamh is a land of green hills, high mountains, deep forests, and seas, where magicks thrive. But portals allow for passage in and out―and ultimately, each must choose their place, and choose between good and evil, war and peace, life and death. Marie Benedict's powerful new novel, “Her Hidden Genuis,” shines a light on a woman who sacrificed her life to discover the nature of our very DNA, a woman whose world-changing contributions were hidden by the men around her but whose relentless drive advanced our understanding of humankind.
Check it all out at the library.
