Three area students earn degrees during WT’s first virtual commencement

Two area undergrads named to spring Dean’s List

CANYON—Among the 1,198 graduates earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees at West Texas A&M University during its first virtual commencement ceremony on May 9, 2020, were three from Texas Spur Country.

Jennifer Mae Jones of Spur earned the Bachelor of Business Administration in Management.

Roberto S. Lara of Spur earned the Bachelor of Science, Sports/Exercise Science.

Candace D’lyn Tarver of Guthrie earned the Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance.

Additionally, named to the Dean’s List for spring semester 2020 were Jessica Louise Jones of Spur, a junior majoring in Criminal Justice, and Ainslea Elaine Price of Spur, a sophomore majoring in Animal Science.

Overall, the university awarded 856 baccalaureate degrees and 342 master’s degrees, following procedural confirmation from the university’s seven deans.

The oldest graduate was 63 years of age and the youngest was 19. Forty-eight percent of those graduates were the first in their family to earn a college degree; 92 graduated with honors (3.5-4.0 GPA), and 46 were veterans.

Those on the Dean’s List earned an overall grade point average of 3.50 to 3.99, those and on the President’s List a 4.0. The three levels of honor recognition for graduates are summa cum laude (3.90-4.00), magna cum laude (3.75-3.89) and cum laude (3.50-3.74).
