How many times have you been visiting with someone in Spur and the conversation turns to, “I wish Spur had a________.” Fill in the blank—it could be a car wash, a coffee shop, a pizza place, a laundromat and so forth.
This summer, predictions are that travel will come roaring back after more than a year of pandemic-driven isolation. Warmer days provide a unique opportunity for Spur to make a good impression on those traveling through our town.
You never know who might be struck by the charm of our small-town life and decide to live here and locate a business here.
Like a suitor spiffing up for a first date, Spur has the opportunity to make its best impression on visitors with a Spring Break Cleanup March 13–18.
City Secretary Ashley Carothers took the initiative recently to apply for a grant, that would cover the cost of large roll-off container rental—and received the funding.
Now the city is reaching out for volunteers with pickups, trucks and trailers to help those who can’t haul off junk, debris, limbs, etc. from residences and businesses.
This is an ideal opportunity to teach youth groups how to make a difference in their town.
Many of those who are elderly or handicapped still haven’t had a way to haul off tree limbs and damage from high wind storms. This communitywide cleanup could take care of all of that.
Day in, day out, if you go to Facebook, there are no shortages of opinions about what people in Spur should do to make our town better. But to quote the famous song by Elvis, now’s the time for “a little less conversation, a little more action.”
