CROSBY COUNTY – Work on a $7.48 million Texas Department of Transportation project to replace a bridge on FM 261 in Crosby County is scheduled to get under way next week. Project contractor is Earth Builders, L.P., of Decatur, Texas.
Work to replace the bridge was scheduled to begin on October 2, according to a TxDOT statement. Plans called for the contractor to begin staging traffic signs and barricades lastt week in preparation of closing the bridge for demolition around mid- to late-October, said Heath Bozeman, P.E., TxDOT’s Plainview Area engineer overseeing the project.
The existing bridge will be completely removed and replaced with a new structure, Bozeman said.
“The project will have the FM 261 bridge completely closed. So, we want to make the public aware that all FM 261 traffic will be detoured on alternate routes and drivers will need to follow the posted detour,” Bozeman said.
Work will take place weather permitting. Completion date for the project is set for August 2024.
FM 261 runs between Spur and Kalgary south of White River Lake and passes near Red Mud Cemetery.
