The Texas Department of State Health Services is holding a Covid-19 Vaccination Event at the First United Methodist Church in Spur on Friday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Approximately 200 vaccines are to be available for first responders, those age 65+, and 55+ with health risks.
Interested persons must secure an appointment online. A link to the online registration will be available soon on the Facebook pages of Dickens County, the City of Spur and The Texas Spur Facebook. DSHS was in Spur to do a walk-through at the church Tuesday afternoon, and when procedures were in place, the signup link was to be live.
Anyone wanting to be vaccinated must have an email address in order to schedule an appointment. However, those without an email address may create one for this purpose, even if they don't plan to use it.
Because the weather is expected to be extremely cold on Friday, with temperatures in the 20s, accommodations will be made so that no one has to wait outside. Also, those needing a ride to the vaccine site may call the Dickens County Judge’s office at (806) 623-5532 to schedule one through the county’s coronavirus response team.
The vaccine is Moderna, and the second shot will be given at the same location March 2. The goal is to vaccinate at least 200 people.

Earlier this week, on Monday, Stonewall Memorial Hospital District made a significant dent in the waiting lists for Covid-19 vaccines in Aspermont and Jayton.
On Monday 120 vaccines were given by appointment only at the clinic in Aspermont to either 65+ or 55+ with risk conditions.
According to Jan Harris with Stonewall Memorial Hospital clinics, the Aspermont clinic is still maintaining waiting lists for those who would like to get a vaccine in the future. To get on the waiting list in Aspermont, call (806) 989-3551.
On Tuesday SMHD vaccinated 120 in Jayton. Again, per state regulations, that was for 65+, or 55+ with health risks. The Jayton clinic is also maintaining signup lists. If you’d like to sign up for a waiting list, call (806) 237-3405.
“We are hoping to have the Spur clinic approved soon,” said Harris, “so that we can do vaccines in Spur.”
