Welcome to Post, Knox readers

As of this week, The Post Dispatch and The Knox County News-Courier have become a part of a group of newspapers that includes The Texas Spur, The Caprock Courier and The Floyd County Hesperian- Beacon.

As the group publisher of these five weeklies, I would like to introduce myself and give you a peek behind the curtain. I was born in Colorado City, raised in Snyder, and after graduating from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1980, crisscrossed the country in the newspaper industry working for a variety of newspaper chains, before coming back home in Texas to care for aging parents, then “retiring” to Spur. (Next week: You’ll meet our group editor Barbara Brannon, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, who like many others got to Texas as soon as she could.)

Last week, we spent some time visiting in Post, Benjamin, Knox City and Munday and seeing firsthand the newspaper operations in those communities, and we look forward to collaborating with those colleagues and learning more about those towns.

We’ve been publishing weekly newspapers since 2018, and we have a great deal of respect for small towns as well as for the people who are committed to making them successful, safe and interesting places to live.

There’s nothing like driving through a small town and seeing someone sitting on their front porch reading that town’s newspaper, or going to the grocery store and seeing a neighbor put the newspaper in the cart while they shop.

In many ways, the weekly newspaper is the lifeblood of a small town, and we are committed to making sure that week in, week out, we fulfill that role.

Speaking of what makes small towns tick, we are extremely excited to add some great football teams to our roster of newspapers—including the Benjamin Mustangs, the Knox County Greyhounds, the Munday Moguls, the Post Antelopes and the Southland Eagles.

With two-a-days starting Monday, it’s not too early to start thinking about football. Mark your calendars, the Annual Football Guide will publish in each of these five newspapers the last week of August.
