Duringthetimethatpublisher Kay Ellington and I absented ourselves from the newspaper office from mid-December to Twelfth Night, we’ve indeed missed out on a few things.
For one, we didn’t get to attend Spur’s Lighted Christmas Parade and festivities, or drop any holiday shopping bucks at the new Mercantile. We missed out on Advent and Christmas church services. We missed making a First Day Hike in a state park for the first time in many years.
We almost missed publishing a newspaper on the 52nd Thursday of the year, due to a planned hiatus for Kay’s hospital stay and recovery. But when Argo Blockchain announced the sale of its flagship Bitcoin mining facility in Dickens County, we jumped in to publish a one-page digital edition last week. That content is repeated in this week’s print edition, for those who don’t read us online.
And we missed phone calls. Lots of them. Even with help to gather up inquiries every few days, we returned to 157 messages on the flashing answering machine.
It’s gratifying, indeed, to realize just how much our newspaper means to you, our advertisers and subscribers. We apologize for the backlog as we make progress in returning your calls.
It’s mighty good to start a new year knowing how much you’ve missed us.
