BURN BAN RESCINDED In the Dickens County commissioners court meeting of June 12, the court approved rescinding the burn ban, in light of recent rains. The court encouraged any needed burning to occur before dry fire conditions return again.
DICKENS COUNTY 4-H HORSE CLUB PLAYDAY SERIES wraps up Sat., June 18 in the Rodeo Arena in Dickens. Books open at 9 a.m.; event start time is 10 a.m.State 4-H Horse Show rules will apply. There will be four age divisions: Lead Line (6 and under); PeeWee:(8 and under); Junior (9-12); Senior (13-18). Riders must participate in at least two Playdays to be eligible for prizes. July 9th will be the rain day (scheduled only if rain cancels the regular date). For more information contact the Dickens County Extension Office, (806) 623-5552.
JAYTON POOL, 700 Madison St., is open for the summer 2022 season, with hours from Tuesday through Saturday 1 to 6 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. The last day of swimming will be August 14. The Jayton Pool will be available for pool parties from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at a cost of $150. The facility will also be offering swimming lessons for ages 4 and up. SPUR ISD SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM Spur ISD is required to participate in the Texas Department of Agriculture Summer Feeding Program. The cafeteria will be open each week day through Thursday, June 30. Any child 18 years and younger will be able to eat lunch for free in the cafeteria. The meal will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The meal will be of the same quality as those served throughout the school year; however, only one entrée will be served each day. Again, any child 18 years old or younger may eat lunch for free.
THE SPUR COMMUNITY CENTER is available again for small events, but the kitchen area and bathrooms remain inaccessible. If you have any questions regarding reservations, please call City Hall, (806) 271-3316.

SPUR VFD INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND CELEBRATION will take place Saturday, July 2, at Swenson Park. Afternoon and evening events include bounce houses and giant water slide, dunking booth, homemade ice cream contest and tasting, patriotic costume contest, Happy Gilmore golfing contests, cornhole tournament, Yeti raffle, concession stand, and fireworks.
