HEALTH FAIR sponsored by the Senior Citizens Association of South Dickens County and the South Plains Association of Governments Area Agency on Aging will be held Thurs., May 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Spur Senior Citizens Center, 210 Burlington Ave. In addition to health screenings, the event will feature vendors and door prizes. Admission is free to anyone age 60 and over.
THE AFTON CEMETERY ASSOCIATION will hold a Memorial Day service on Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at the Afton Cemetery. Please join us as we honor the military personnel who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We will hold the annual meeting immediately after the service.
MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM will be held Mon., May 29, at the Girard Cemetery chapel, starting at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited. Those who wish to bring refreshments, please consider cookies or brownies. Water and napkins will be furnished. Come and visit with friends and neighbors.
WHITE RIVER MARINA HOURS The marina will be closed during midweek, but will have longer hours for the weekend. New Hours: Mon., 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; Tues./Wed./Thurs, closed; Fri. 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sat. 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; Sun. 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
SPUR ISD SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM Spur ISD is required to participate in the Texas Department of Agriculture Summer Feeding Program. The school cafeteria will be open each week day beginning Tuesday, May 30, through Wednesday, June 28. Any child 18 years and younger will be able to eat lunch for free in the cafeteria. The meal will be served from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. The meal will be of the same quality as those served throughout the school year; however, only one entrée will be served each day. Again, any child 18 years old or younger may eat lunch for free. Spur ISD is an equal opportunity provider.
114th RED MUD CEMETERY DAY is scheduled for Sat., June 3, 2023. Volunteers will meet at the cemetery for visiting and remembering loved ones. Following a potluck meal, there will be a short business meeting.
SAVE THE DATE The Spur Fourth of July Parade will be held Sat., July 1, at 10 a.m. Anyone with vehicles, bikes, etc. are welcome to participate. A float will be provided for veterans to ride on. Those who would like to participate should contact the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.
SAVE THE DATE The 20th Jayton Gridiron Classic is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, August 24–26, 2023, featuring sixteen high school six-man football teams.
SAVE THE DATE The 100th Motley-Dickens Reunion & Rodeo will take place Thursday through Saturday, August 24–26, 2023, in Roaring Springs, featuring a WRCA rodeo, parade, food trucks, shopping, and entertainment. A work day is scheduled at 8 a.m. June 24, 2023, at the rodeo grounds.
