A “Wildlife Field Day” will be held at the Ribelin Ranch in Stonewall County on Friday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 pm. The Ribelin Ranch is located 3 miles East of Aspermont, Texas, towards Stamford on US Hwy. 380.
Dr. Dale Rollins, director of outreach at the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch, said the field day will focus on wildlife diversity and cover everything from quail and deer to non-game species such as purple martins and pollinators. This is truly a field day that everyone should be interested in attending.
Speakers will include Dr. Dale Rollins, Kegan Crouch with NRCS, Duane Lucia with USFWS, Barrett Koennecke with TPWD, and other specialists. Topics will include quail, deer, dove, turkey and nongame species management. A lunch will be provided at the ranch and then we will go on a tour of the Ribelin Ranch to look at food plots, wildlife supplemental feeding practices, brush management, effects fire has had on the landscape, livestock grazing practices, wetland conservation and other practices. The Ribelins have used all the tools, the axe, plow, fire and cow, to create excellent wildlife habitat that benefits a diversity of species; it’s truly a unique property.
Registration at the Ribelin Ranch on Friday, Oct. 6 will start at 8:30AM, the program will begin at 9 a.m.; lunch will be catered at the ranch at noon, and the ranch tour will start at 1 p.m.
