102nd Annual Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo, Aug. 28–30, seeks parade entrants

The 102nd Annual Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo is coming together for August 28–30, 2025 in Roaring Springs.

Old Settlers organizers invite businesses, organizations, families and individuals to sign up to participate in the parade, which will be Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025 at 10 a.m. in Roaring Springs.

This year entrants in the parade can pre-enter by going to the Old Settlers Facebook page, where there is a Google docs link, or you can contact organizer Krista Francis at (575) 390-3923.

In addition to the parade and ranch rodeo, key events during the 102nd event include Friday night entertainment with Jake Hooker & The Outsiders; Saturday night entertainment with Rowdy Decker; and an Old Timers’ Dance (both nights) with Chad Maines & Friends.

The 2025 rodeo queen candidates have their raffle tickets—and they are ready to sell. By supporting the candidate of your choice, you can buy a chance to win spurs built by Matt Humphreys; a bit built by Stephen White Spurs; or a trinket also built by Stephen White. Prices are $5 for one ticket and $20 for five tickets.

Brynleigh Chavez is the daughter of Lacy and Conway Clary. She has an older brother, Ace Taylor. Brynleigh is in 9th grade at Motley County ISD, and she loves hanging out with her friends, spending time with her family, and working and riding horses. Brynleigh is always involved in sports like cross country, basketball, track and tennis. She is in FFA and UIL. Her favorite part of Old Settlers is watching the bronc riding. Brynleigh is an outgoing student who is always involved in something and loves to participate in everything that comes her way.

Queen candidate

Daven Dempsey is the daughter of Bo Dempsey and Heleen Taylor. She has a twin brother, Brody, and four step-siblings: Lauren, Cortny, Caleb and Sidny. A senior at Spur High School, Daven is outgoing, faith-driven, and always full of energy. She enjoys riding horses, shopping, being outdoors and spending time with family. This year she stepped away from sports to focus on getting her nursing license and cherishing her time before graduation. She stays involved in Debate, FFA and UIL. Her favorite part of Old Settlers is meeting amazing people who’ve truly impacted

her life.

Friday night dance: Jake Hooker and the Outsiders.

Hailing from San Angelo, Jake Hooker has more than a quarter of a century in recording. His band, The Outsiders, are known to headline Western swing and traditional country venues across the state.

A perennial favorite at Bob Wills Day each year, this band is known to get a crowd dancing. Jake Hooker and the Outsiders will be taking the stage immediately following the Friday night rodeo.

Saturday night dance: Rowdy Decker will be the featured entertainment immediately following the Saturday night rodeo.

Decker is a growing force in country music in Texas. Raised in the small town of Brock, he started his musical journey at a young age. He played the fiddle in the family bluegrass band and traveled to numerous festivals. In his teens, he began showing an interest in the guitar and songwriting.

He still works hard at improving his craft. “Nothing worth having comes easy,” said Decker, adding that he remains diligent in his pursuit of his dreams of success. Decker put his band together in 2018, and the Rowdy Decker band has brought country music to stages across Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Decker is known for high-energy country tunes, boots on the dance floor and a night of music, memories and nonstop fun.
