ALAMODOME-BOUND At press time for this issue, the #1 Jayton Jaybirds are winging their way back to San Antonio for the State title game. They defeated the #5 Texline Tornadoes 56-43 Monday night at the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University to claim a spot in the Conference 1A D-2 State final. The dominance in Jayton continues: State basketball title in March 2024, State football title in December 2024; and now heading back to San Antonio going for back-to-back State basketball titles. In Monday night’s victory, Sean Stanaland scored 20 points, and Bode Ham ended with 13. For those unable to make the game in person, action will be livestreamed Thursday, March 6 at 11 a.m. on NFHS.
