Spur-based Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative held its annual meeting the afternoon of March 1, 2025 in Spur, describing the event in their March newsletter as “a great time to join together with our cooperative family.”
Cap Rock’s service area extends eastward from the caprock in West Texas through the rolling plains, covering 5,000 square miles of farms, ranch communities and small towns. “It is a privilege to provide this vast area with their communication needs,” read the newsletter.
Entertainment at the gathering was provided by Travis Williams of Lubbock.
At 2 p.m. the meeting was called to order by executive vice president and general manager Jimmy Whitefield, who chaired the meeting. Whitefield read the official notice of the annual meeting the asked Debbie Allen, customer service supervisor, to assist with the membership count and determination of a quorum; 83 members were in attendance.
Whitefield then introduced Lauren Young, CPA, of Bollinger, Segars, Gilbert & Moss to review the coop’s finances.
Service awards were then presented to employees.
Shane Parsons was ec- ognized for 30 years of service. Recognized for 25 years of service was Jason Slaton; recognized for 20 years of service were Ronnie Bilberry and Stephen Jones.
Ten-year service awards went to Riley Abbott, Andrew Adams, Yolanda Adams, Roy Chisum, Cody Shafer, Todd Smith and Paul White.
Say Joplin was recognized for five years of service.
The final activity for the day included door prize drawings. Cap Rock awarded 24 cash envelopes, ranging from $25 to $50, and one grand prize envelope containing $100 in cash. As the meeting came to a close, members were served refreshments and provided an opportunity to visit with staff.
