District 3 4-H held its Meat Judging Contest at Texas Tech University on April 17, 2025.
The contest featured six placing classes, which included both carcasses and retail cuts; two questions classes; and 15 retail IDs (which include species, primal, retail and cookery) for juniors. The intermediates had six placing classes, three sets of reasons, and forty retail IDs.
Henry Chapman, a fourth grader from Patton Springs, earned the title of Overall Grand Champion in the Junior Division. His impressive performance was complemented by Calvin-Hays Chapman, a sixth grader also from Patton Springs, who secured the Reserve Grand Champion title in the Intermediate Division.
The competitors have been helped along by Graden Allen, Texas Tech student and member of the Meat Judging team, who has provided guidance and training throughout the year.
