DICKENS COUNTY SHERIFF: MEET THE CANDIDATES

JAY ALLEN

JAY ALLEN

Office sought: Dickens City of Residence: Spur, County Sheriff Texas

Hometown: I consider Lubbock my hometown even though I also lived in the Ira and Snyder area when I was younger.

Education: I attended elementary in Ira and junior high in Snyder. I graduated from Cooper High School in Lubbock. I then attended the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office Academy, from which I graduated in 1994.

Occupation: I have served with Kent County Sheriff's Office, Garza County Sheriff's Office, and Spur Police Dept, and currently serve with Dickens County Sheriff's Office.

Family: My wife, Debbie, and I are blessed with 6 kids: 3 daughters, Nikki Beaty of Lubbock, Julie Villa of Sweetwater, Caitlyn Allen of Mertzon, and 3 sons, Keith Beaty of Lubbock, Bryan Beaty of Spur and Bradey Allen of San Angelo. We have 6 grandkids and 6 bonus kids. We love each and every one of them.

I enjoy spending time with family every chance I get, as we all know, tomorrow is not promised. One of my favorite things to do is being outdoors and hunting varmints. In the evenings after a long day, I enjoy reading and watching informational articles and videos to wind down.

Key campaign messages: (1) Understanding how to implement proactive law enforcement practices without impeding the rights of citizens is particularly important to me, and the best way to accomplish that is to form a partnership between the sheriff's office and the people we serve. (2) Having served as a city officer in Spur and as a county deputy being active in the unincorporated areas of the county, I better understand the concerns of most citizens. (3) Maintaining a cooperative relationship with city, state and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure effective and efficient prosecution at all levels of the criminal justice system.

What areas of public policy or community issues matter most to you? As we all know our small communities are becoming infected more and more with the drugs and violent crimes against children, and human trafficking. It is not just in the bigger cities any longer. I am currently in the last phase of what has been a lengthy process of getting on as a Task Force Officer with the FBI. I will be on a team that focuses on Violent Crimes Against Children & Human Trafficking. My goal is to use the knowledge, training, relationships and contacts I gain, and have gained over my years of experience, to tackle any issues our small community faces.
