Fresh look, new tools, branch office coming for Spur Security Bank

Spur Security Bank has been Spur’s hometown bank for more than a century—with its headquarters anchoring the heart of downtown.

For the first time, though, it’s adding a branch outside of Spur.

According to CEO Kevin Bass, other new products and features are on the way as well. These are all part of the bank’s strategic plan, Bass said, to expand its footprint. “We’re on a good, solid, steady growth plan,” he said, with the bank’s deposits doubled from $50 million to $100 million over the past two years.

Customers have already begun to see the new logo, which Bass described as a “mid-century modern” take on the bank’s western roots. But the visual rebranding is just the leading edge of an ambitious new suite of products, a banking system upgrade, and a branch in Lubbock.

Bass, along with the project team of Jay House, Melanie McCormick, Kayla Watson and Ashley Webb, walked Texas Spur editors through the to the bank’s website and system are planned for May 22-27, over a holiday weekend to minimize impact on customers. The bank has already distributed information to existing customers regarding the minimal effects on users, and a chart of steps users will need to take to activate their new, more secure debit cards and update their mobile phone apps (Apple apps will auto-update; Android users will need to upload the new app.)

Digital Banking will be unavailable for a few days during that time, including the Mobile Check Deposit feature.

Customers who haven’t yet downloaded all their 2025 pdf bank statements must do so before May 22. (If you’re an existing customer but new to Spur Security Bank’s eStatement enrollment after that time, your eStatements will go

date.)

Customers’ loan account numbers will need to be updated with other banks, where applicable. Also, customers using Quick-Books or Quicken software will need to reconnect in the new platform.

Enhancements to the bank’s product suite will be available starting May 27. Beginning in 2023 customers welcomed the convenience of mobile check deposit, an enhanced website, a mobile app, and chip-enabled debit cards. Now, they’ll also have an online bill pay feature in the mobile app, plus more enhancements to be announced. Business banking customers will have new tools for online ACH and wire origination, streamlined payroll, remote capture of deposits, and (coming later) a “positive pay” option to reduce the risk of fraud.

Rebranding and image.

This writer’s impressions: For a bank that’s maintained a reliable presence in its original community since the beginning, Spur Security Bank’s new branding is symbolic of a look back to its historic small-town Texas origins off the Caprock, and a look forward to upward aspirations. What’s your take? We’d be keen to hear.

The new look and feel will go live on the bank’s website Monday, May 19, 2025.
