The annual Highway 70 Garage Sales is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, with more than 40 vendors signed up as of Monday along a 60-mile stretch of two-lane blacktop, according to co-organizer Joan Day of Spur.
Vendors will be selling “all kinds of things from household items, to antiques and even some food items such as breakfast burritos,” said Day.
Since the 2000s this popular sale, featuring stops along the route from Jayton to Turkey, has been on event calendar of every junk picker and bargain hunter in this region.
To sign up to get on the list of sales, contact on the list this year; a flyer with all sale participants is available in each town on the Friday before the sale. The list of vendors by town will be posted on Facebook pages, including The Caprock Courier’s, on Friday morning.
If you’re a buyer, please remember to have small bills and coin change on hand for purchases. A vendor cannot leave their sale to get change, and cannot anticipate the number of buyers who may have $20 bills for a 25-cent item.
Starting early may require that you need a place to stay if you are coming in from out of town. There are rooms still available at the Back Door Inn in Spur (call 806-271-4780 for reservations for your Friday night stay or relax after a full day of shopping by staying Saturday night). In Spur there is also the Mesquite Inn, (806) 4220942, and in Dickens the Dickens Country Stays (find on Facebook).
