Hotel Turkey is saddling up for their First Annual Caprock Cowboy Fandango, taking place Feb. 28 through March 2. They are claiming the weekend to be “full of all things western and cowboy” with a full lineup of musicians as well as a western art exhibit for viewing and shopping.
“We have been talking about having a cowboy gathering of sorts for years,” said Carley du Menil of the Hotel Turkey team. “It has been a priority for Pat (the owner) for us to recognize and promote the culture that is all around us in Turkey and Hall County.”
The art exhibit, organized by renowned Western photographer Scott Slusher, will surely blow you away as it celebrates the western way of life and promotes local artisans. The gals at Hotel Turkey announced in a Facebook post last week: “Scott has curated an art exhibition that will feature art of all mediums with artists from all walks of life ranging from full-time professional artisans to incredibly talented working tradesmen.”
The art show will be featured in the Boot Shop and next door inside the hotel, while the lineup of musicians will entertain outside. There will even be a chuck wagon lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
The inside scoop hints that visitors can look forward to the possibility of this becoming a recurring event as the team members at Hotel Turkey are “very confident it won’t be our last.”
“We have had plenty of cowboys, musicians and artists around,” said de Menil, “but this is our first time making a concerted effort to have everyone here at the same time.”
A true group effort, the event has even gained local business sponsorships. “Woodward Livestock Auction of Woodward, Oklahoma, is sponsoring the chuckwagon meal,” said de Menil. Antina Cattle Co. is sponsoring the music on Saturday, and United Country – M. Edwards Realty & Auction will be sponsoring the music on Sunday, she added. “It is just a testament that everyone believes in the cowboy culture and way of life.”
