The Jayton Jaybirds boys squad will be making a repeat trip to the State basketball tournament at the Alamodome this Thursday, March 7.
The #2 Jaybirds overcame a very tall and very skilled Texline Tornadoes team Saturday afternoon in the regional final at the Texan Dome in Levelland.
Jayton trailed #4 Texline for much of the game but took the lead in the 4th quarter and held on for a 51-46 to advance to State.
In 2023 the Jaybirds were the state runners-up, falling to defending champion Graford in overtime at the title game. Jayton is making their fourth trip to state since 2019.
Jayton will face the Lions from Fayetteville, a small town halfway between Houston and Austin, Thursday, March 7 at 10 a.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Benjamin-Gordon game on Saturday morning for the championship.
