JGISD names sole finalist for superintendent

Scott Bicknell, currently superintendent at Muenster Independent School District in north Texas, has been named the sole finalist for the superintendent’s position for Jayton-Girard Independent School District, according to Interim Superintendent Johnny Tubb. JGISD has held a series of called meetings to select their sole finalist, Tubb said, in which the board of trustees interviewed six candidates. The JGISD board interviewed three candidates on January 24 and three candidates on January 25. Then on February 1, the board had a called meeting and named Bicknell the sole finalist. He is now in a 21-day waiting period, and the board expects to have a called meeting on February 23 to officially name Bicknell the new superintendent.

Bicknell has a B.S. in education from Illinois State University and a M.Ed. in administration from Lamar University. He has been with Muenster ISD for the past two years and spent seven years in Glasscock County ISD (Garden City) before Muenster. Prior to those positions, he was a coach in a variety of spots in Texas and Illinois for 19 years.

Bicknell also provided this personal background information to The Texas Spur. “My wife, Brooke, and I have been married for almost 13 years,” he said. “We have two beautiful daughters; Josselyn is 10 years old and Everly is 9 years old.” He said that he had been in education for almost 28 years, as teacher, coach, athletic director and principal, and then as a superintendent for the last six-years.

Interim Superintendent Johnny Tubb has served in that capacity since June 2023, when previous superintendent Layne Sheets accepted a position with Frenship ISD.
