Kent Lions to sponsor CPR training April 25

For those looking to brush up on their life-saving skills, or those who have always wanted to know CPR but haven’t set aside the time, the Kent County Lions Club is sponsoring a training session in Jayton April 25.

“The presenters will cover chokingprevention,CPR, and AED training,” said Lions Club member Christy Long, who explained that although this is not a certification class, it does provide basic knowledge for babysitters or caregivers. Long encouraged participants to bring friends and family members of middle school age or older to take part in this free community workshop.

At its regular luncheon meeting March 25, the club also welcomed visitors Trevor and Rebecca Sedberry of Swenson, who have four children enrolled at Jayton-Girard ISD and are active in youth sports. The Sedberrys introduced themselves as ranchers raising wagyu beef, and Long reminded attendees that they had donated the beef for the recent Lions Club raffle fundraiser.

While the club expected to elect officers at the March meeting, last-minute absences prevented taking care of the matter. Long entertained a motion to table the item until the group could seek advice of a nominating committee.

Long also asked if volunteers would be interested in participating in a community cleanup effort, and suggested that a recognition of firefighters and law enforcement would be an appropriate activity for April. Members voted to present a plaque or certificate, along with a goodie bag, to local first responders and to invite them to a meal.

The group opted not to hold Bingo or other community-wide events during April due to demands of school schedules.
