Highway 70 Garage

Sales coming up May 4

May the 4th be with you! Saturday, May 4, 2024 is the day of the annual Highway 70 Garage Sales The Friends of the Library will be hosting a baked potato bar lunch from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the library, located on Highway 70 (403 East Hill Street), thanks in part to Lawrence Bros Grocery, Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative and South Plains Electric Cooperative. For a suggested donation of $10 you will get a potato with all the fixings such as pulled pork, taco meat, butter, sour cream, cheese, jalapenos, and more. You will also get a cold drink.

Anyone interested in looking through our used book room will be welcome. We encourage you to fill a bag with paperbacks for free! If hardcover books are more to your liking, we have quite a few of those too. A donation would be appreciated for taking the hardcover books from the used book room. We will also be selling tickets for the raffle that is to be held between 5 and 6 p.m. that same day. Although you do not have to be present to win, we encourage you to join us for the drawing. We will be serving coffee and desert at that time. The grand prize for the drawing is a $500 gift certificate to Salt Fork Outfitters, 304 Burlington Ave. Spur, Texas, courtesy of Salt Fork Outfitters; second place prize is a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of the Friends of the Library; and the third place prize is a $50 gift certificate to Lawrence Bros Grocery courtesy of manager C.C. Noland. Tickets will be available for $5 each or six for $25 at the library or from any library board member up until the time of the drawing. Thank you to all of our local merchants and citizens for supporting our local library!

Thanks to a donation we received “Celebrating Birds” by Natalia Rojas and Maria Martinez, a gorgeously illustrated and interactive full-color guide to more than 181 birds of North America, based on the bestselling board game Wingspan. Praised for its gorgeous illustrations, accurate portrayal of bird habitats, and its gameplay, the bird-focused board game Wingspan has become an international sensation, available in a dozen languages and selling more than 200,000 copies its first year. Celebrating Birds is the ultimate companion to the game for fans, as well as a beautiful and in-depth field guide for avian and nature enthusiasts. In addition to large-size representations of each bird and the most up-to-date bird descriptions provided by Cornell Lab of Ornithology, “Celebrating Birds” includes a step-bystep guide that can be used to take the game into the real world. Players can collect points based on the birds, nests, and various habitat and feeding clues they find outside.

From New York Times bestselling author Dan Brown we have “Artic Storm Rising,” first in a new series featuring U.S. Air Force intelligence officer Nick Flynn on the hunt for Russian commandos in the mountains of Alaska. After a CIA covert mission goes badly awry, U.S. Air Force intelligence officer Nicholas Flynn is exiled to guard a remote radar post along Alaska’s Arctic frontier. This dead-end assignment is designed to put his career permanently on ice, but Flynn’s not the type to fade quietly into obscurity.

Check it all out at the library.
