LIBRARY NOTES

New books, new readers at the Spur library

Spring will quickly turn

to summer, so begin your summer by bringing your children to the Collaborative Summer Reading programs that will be offered at the library.

Spur Area Rural Clinic will lead off the programming on Tuesday May 28, 2024. followed by Texas Farm Bureau on June 4, and ending with South Plains Electric on June 11. The event begins each week at 10 a.m. We are very fortunate that we have local businesses that take the time and effort to entertain and educate the children of the community.

Also beginning May 28, we will be passing out reading logs to children up through age 12 to keep track of how many books they read or have books read to them. We will have a drawing on June 25, for three prizes in three age divisions. The only way to get a ticket for the drawing is to read or be read to. The child will get one ticket for every 10 books on their book log. All book logs must be turned in by 3 p.m. on June 25 to be eligible for a ticket. We will draw the winning tickets at 4:30 p.m. that day. They do not need to be present to win.

We have some new children’s books to help them begin their logs. One is “Marley, Farm Dog” by John Grogan and illustrated by Richard Cowdrey. It is a level two easy reader. We also have “Unicorn and Yeti: Sparkly New Friends” by Heather Ayris Burnell and illustrated by Hazel Quintanilla.

We also have new books for the grown-ups, thanks to a donation from a very special patron. We have “Lethal Velocity” by bestselling author Lincoln Child. One Amazon reviewer had this to say about the thriller: “This was so good. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I love the way this author twists and mixes plots and thrills to a satisfying ending.” The Roanoke Times called it “a riveting read, part mystery part science fiction, and all page turner.”

Check it all out at the library.
