LIBRARY NOTES

New books for young readers at the Spur library

Our Collaborative Summer Reading programming may be behind us, but the prize drawing is still going on until June 25, 2024. All reading logs must be turned into the library by 3:00 p.m. that day to get an entry for the drawing.

For every 10 books that are either read to or read by the child they will receive one entry ticket for the drawing. There are three age groups and three winners. The age categories are 0–4, 5–8, and 9–12. Besides an entry for the drawing, for every 10 books turned in on their logs they will get to pick out a prize from the treasure chest.

On June 4, Texas Farm Bureau’s Shelbie Hannum, along with Dickens County Farm Bureau’s Lexie Hinson and Gabby Todd Campbell, joined us at the library. Shelbie read the story “How to Grow a Monster” by Kiki Thorp, which tells the story of growing a giant zucchini. The children then got to plant their own zucchini seed to take home and were treated with popsicles furnished by Dickens County Farm Bureau. The children’s book was then donated to the library for the children to be able to check it out to read at home. Thank you to Shelbie, Lexie and Gabby for such a wonderful program!

We received a few board books for the littlest patrons of the library this past week. We have them in the computer and ready to check out. They are “Poke-a-Dot: Goodnight, Animals,” a Melissa and Doug book; “Diva Days,” a Disney book; “I Love You, Too” by Eve Bunting and illustrated by Melissa Sweet; “Muddle and Match: Superheroes” by Helen Catt and illustrated by Stephanie Hinton; “The Best Mouse Cookie” by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond; and “Hello Garage” by Nicola Slater.

Check them all out at the library.
