Reading raffle winners
Happy Independence Day! Our Summer Reading raffle has ended, and we are so proud of all of the children who entered. Our winners were drawn and announced on social media this past week. The winners were: in the 9–12 age category, Rayland Gutierrez, who won the Choose Your Own Adventure 4-book boxed set Creature Feature (“The Case of the Silk King,” “Inca Gold,” “Search for the Black Rhino,” “Search for the Mountain Gorillas”) by author Shannon Gilligan; in the 5–8 age category, Brazos Humphreys won the Magic Treehouse Graphic Novel Starter Set by Jenny Laird; and in the 0–4 age category, Blayke Humphreys won the Early Learning Library box set of 10 big board books by Wonder House Books. Congratulations to our winners.
The Friends of the Library will be participating in the Independence Day happenings around town. If you are downtown on July 4th to see the parade we will be set up at Rickels Park from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. with a patriotic photo backdrop. Bring your family and friends dressed in red, white, and blue and use our patriotic photo backdrop to take pictures. The Friends of the Library are doing this as a free service to the community. A donation jar will be there for anyone wishing to make a donation to the library.
On Saturday, July 6 at the Show Barn the Friends of the Library are sponsoring the Homemade Ice Cream Contest. Each entry is $10 and needs to be turned in by 6:30 pm. The cost to taste or judge will be $1.00, and that will begin at 7:00 p.m. The announcement of the winners will be at 8:00 p.m. and there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. All proceeds go to the library.
We have a few new books available at the library. In large print Western fiction we have two from John Shirley, acclaimed author of Ralph Compton’s “Prairie Fire.”
“Axel Bust Creek” is the first in an action-packed new series starring Civil War veteran Cleveland Trewe, a master gunfighter, horseman, and lawman who’s looking to strike it rich in the gold fields of Axle Bust, Nevada.
The second in the series is “Gunmetal Mountain.” They say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. But it’s hard to know what’s going on inside the twisted mind of Magnus Lamb, the charismatic leader of an isolated logging town known for its healing hot springs. Some might say he’s created a peaceful utopia here on Gunmetal Mountain. But for Cleveland Trewe and his lovely traveling companion Berry, this little piece of heaven is more like hell on Earth.
Check it all out at the library.
