Spur library story time starts back after brief break

DONNICE CARRUTH | SPECIAL TO THE TEXAS SPUR

Summer seems to have just arrived, but before you know it school will be starting for the 2024–2025 school year. Spur ISD will begin on August 13, and Patton Springs ISD on August 12. That is just one month away. We will have forms ready at the library Monday, July 15 for those of you who would like some help with your student’s school supplies. This will be our fourth year to provide school supplies to Dickens County students. Students attending Spur ISD or Patton Springs ISD, or are homeschooled in Dickens County are eligible to receive school supplies through the Dickens County Spur Public Library annual school supply drive. There is no guarantee they will get everything on their list, but we do our best to get everything we can. If you would like to donate supplies or funds to purchase supplies, please come by the library or call at (806) 2713714 Monday through Thursday from noon until 5 p.m.

After a short break for Independence Day, story time resumes on Thursday, July 11 at 10 a.m. Join Joanna Bateman for lots of reading and fun-filled crafts for preschoolaged children every Thursday morning from 10 till 11 a.m.

Thanks to a donation left at our doorstep, we have quite a few new junior fiction books. For the 7- to -0 year old age group, we have a graphic novel series by Zach Zombie called Herobrine’s Wacky Adventures.

Book one of the series is “Herobrine Goes to School.” The mysterious Herobrine somehow enters our human world. Well, he really had no choice but to come to our world. Maybe Herobrine is not that much different to you and me. Being a twelve-year-old kid, Herobrine enrolled into a human school and he is nervous. Being the new kid at school is hard, especially if the normal humans you interact with are all scared of you. How will Herobrine get through his first few days of school? What kind of trouble will he get himself into?

In book two of the series “Herobrine Scared Stiff,” it’s Herobrine’s first Halloween, and he's got to save the world! Herobrine is already weirded out by the crazy ghosts, goblins and ghouls he sees taking over the human world on Halloween.

Book three is “Herobrine Saves Christmas.” It’s Herobrine's first Christmas, and he is amazed by all of the holiday cheer. But he may not enjoy it for long, because somehow Santa Claus has gone missing. Herobrine will have to go back to the Nether to rescue him from whatever enemy is trying to destroy Christmas. But will he be able to rescue Santa in time for Christmas?

The last book of the series, book four, is “Herobrine Goes on Vacation.” Lucy Lurker and her family have decided to go to Hawaii for their family vacation. And at the last minute she invites Herobrine to tag along. So, what kind of trouble can Herobrine cause on this island paradise?

Check it out at the library.
