It’s that time of the year again. Let the Friends of the Library make the back-to-school transition a little easier by filling out a form to get most of your child’s/children’s school supplies for free.
Back-to-school time is hectic and expensive, with new clothes, new shoes, and school supplies. We want to help make this time a little less expensive for the parents of Dickens County students. With the help of some very generous donors we have been able to furnish school supplies for students of Spur ISD, Patton Springs ISD, and students home schooled in our area.
This week we would like to recognize Anna McArthur, who has helped by furnishing supplies since the beginning over four years ago. As a former teacher, she understands how important it is to make sure all students have the same advantages when starting a new school year. She loves to see their young faces light up when they receive a new backpack full of all of the necessary supplies to get started. Thank you, Anna McArthur, and her son Matthew McArthur!
While summer it is officially still summer, you might want to check out “Queen of the Beach Reads” Elin Hilderbrand’s “Endless Summer: Stories From Days That Last Forever.” Kirkus Reviews says, “With exclusive, behindthe- scenes introductions to each story, this page-turning volume blends Hilderbrand’s irresistible love of Nantucket with her longtime affection for short stories. ‘Endless Summer’ answers the prayers of both new and seasoned readers everywhere who ‘would rather be living in an Elin Hilderbrand novel.’” Also from Hilderbrand we have “A Summer Affair.” Claire has a problem with setting limits. All her life she has taken on every responsibility, assumed every burden, granted every request. Claire wants it all—and in the eyes of her friends, she has it: a devoted husband, four beautiful children, even a successful career as an artist. So when she agrees to chair the committee for Nantucket's social event of the year, she knows she can handle it. Claire can handle anything.
Check it out at the library.
