Dozens benefit from library’s school supply donations

We are off to another good year of providing Dickens County students with school supplies—already we have passed out supplies to more than 50 students.

We have had more supplies and money donated to purchase supplies this past week. A big thank you goes out to Brenda Hill for donating both supplies and money to purchase more supplies. Brady Hinson from South Plains Greenkeeper Drip Irrigation has pledged another large donation for school supplies.

Thank you to everyone who keeps this program going. The people picking up the supplies for their children have expressed their appreciation for the help. Many have said, “Thank you all so much, you don’t know how much this helps!”

I will be at the school open house in Spur on Monday, August 12, with forms for those who have not yet received their supplies. Teachers, think about what supplies you might need. I will also have a form for teachers to fill out to receive supplies.

One of our younger patrons came into the library this week with a copy of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” to donate to the library. She said she noticed that we didn’t have this book of the series and wanted to give us a copy. Thank you, Hayes Hindman. You are a very thoughtful young lady.

We recently received a shipment of large-print books. There were quite a few new large-print Western fiction, some suspense and romance.

USA Today bestselling author Kimberly Belle returns with a deeply addictive thriller exploring the dark side of the digital world when a mommy-blogger’s assistant goes missing in “Personal Assistant.”

When Alex first began posting unscripted family moments and motivational messages online, she had no intention of becoming an influencer. Overnight it seemed she’d amassed a huge following, and her hobby became a full-time job—one that was impossible to manage without her sharp-as-a-tack personal assistant, AC. But all the good-will of her followers turns toxic when one controversial post goes viral in the worst possible way. Alex reaches out to AC for damage control, but her assistant has gone silent. This young woman Alex trusted with all her secrets, who had access to her personal information and front row seats to the pressure points in her marriage and family life, is now missing and the police are looking to Alex and her husband for answers. As Alex digs into AC’s identity, and a woman is found murdered. She’ll find the greatest threat isn’t online, but in her own living room.

Number one bestselling author Lisa Scottoline presents “Loyalty,” an emotional, action-packed epic of love and justice, set during the rise of the Mafia in Sicily.

From the Western fiction writing team of William W. and J.A. Johnstone we have “Fires of Hell,” “Lone Star Legacy,” “The First Mountain Man: Preacher’s Purge,” and “Texarkana.”

From New York Times bestselling author James Patterson and Richard Di-Lallo we have the action packed thriller “The Ninth Month.” Emily Atkinson leads a complicated life in New York City. She’s a successful marketing executive who lives in a luxury apartment and enjoys a glamorous existence until she lands in the hospital with a double diagnosis: she parties too much—and she’s pregnant. Her nurse and new best friend, Betsey, helps Emily rediscover how much she loves morning runs in the park and quiet nights at home. But as a series of women in her wealthy social circles go missing, Emily’s pregnancy becomes decidedly high-risk.

Check it out at the library.
