LIBRARY NOTES

New books, new readers at the Spur library

Although summer is still here, school is back in session. The Friends of the Library had another great year of helping Dickens County students with their school supplies. We have furnished over 60 Spur ISD, Patton Spring ISD, and home-school students in the county with supplies to start out their year.

Thank you again to all of the generous donors who give to such a great cause. We provided over 20 backpacks, 525 #2 pencils, 215 glue sticks, 80 composition notebooks and so much more to the students. The parents or guardians picking up the supplies were very appreciative of the help.

Recently I have volunteered to help fill in at the South Dickens County Senior Center with delivering meals when needed. There are many of our senior citizens who either can’t or have a hard time getting around.

We have started a new program here at the library for our shut-ins. It is for anyone who is unable to get out and about and would like reading materials. Call the library at (806) 271-3714 and let us know what genre book you prefer, if you have a favorite author, whether you need books in large print, or if you would prefer audio books on cd. I will gather up a few and bring them to your house.

We have quite a few donated books and audio books, and even some magazines. These do not need to be returned to the library. There is no charge for this service, but if you would like to make a donation to the Friends of the Library, donations are always appreciated.

Some new large-print books came in this past week, and a few Western fiction books by William W. and J.A. Johnstone were donated to the library.

Check it out at the library.
