The annual Late Night Holiday Shopping event was held Dec. 5th in downtown Spur.
Santa and Mrs. Claus rode down Burlington in a horsedrawn carriage to the Palace Theater, where they spent the rest of the evening visiting with the children and having their picture taken.
The Spur chapter of the Masonic Lodge had their annual pancake supper. For a donation, late-night shoppers could have a delicious meal of regular or blueberry pancakes with sausage. All of the proceeds from their pancake supper go to scholarships for local students. Many of the downtown businesses were open later than normal to accommodate late night shopping.
The Spur Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the vendors at the Spur Senior Center. This is where the Friends of the Library held the raffle for some great prizes. All of the prizes were donated, so all of the proceeds from the raffle will go to the library.
The grand prize, a 9’ Frosty the Snowman yard decoration donated by Gemmy Industries, was won by Joe Molina. The $50 gift certificate donated by Lawrence Brothers Grocery was won by Sheryl Lewis. There were two $25 gift certificates donated by Salt Fork Outfitters, and they were won by Howard Freemyer and Linda Alexander. The gift basket donated by Dana’s Pharmacy was won by Dola Garrett. Congratulations to all of our winners!
We would like to thank the businesses that donated the prizes and everyone who bought raffle tickets in support of the library. We would like to say thank you also to Gentry Bilberry, who helped by drawing out all of the winning tickets.
We had a very nice turnout for our Christmas Craft night held on December 2nd. We made Christmas decorations out of some very unusual things. We used bowling pins to make snowmen and snowwomen. We used planters to make cocoa cups with marshmallows made from Styrofoam and straws from party favors. We also used lampshades to make Christmas bells. We had a great time crafting, visiting and drinking cocoa.
Check it all out at the library.
