is back in full swing this July, and we’ve already had some wonderful moments to share. Last Thursday, we were thrilled to welcome a special guest reader from Family and Youth Services (FAYS). The children enjoyed a delightful story, and thanks to FAYS, every family in attendance received a free book to take home.
In addition to the giveaways, FAYS generously donated a copy of “The Book That Almost Rhymed” by Omar Abed, illustrated by Hatem Aly, to our library collection. This clever and colorful picture book follows a young storyteller who’s trying hard to make a poem rhyme but every time the rhyme is about to land, something silly gets in the way! With humor and heart, it encourages kids to embrace creativity, celebrate their own voice, and find joy in the unexpected.
While the kids are having fun at Story Time, let’s not forget that the Adult Summer Reading Contest is still going strong through August! If you’re 18 or older, live in Dickens County, and have a valid Spur-Dickens County Public Library card, you’re eligible to participate. For every three books you read, you can turn in a reading log for a chance to win a gift card from Lawrence Brothers Grocery Store.
We’d also like to give a big thank you to Dana Conrad again for a generous donation of books to our library. Here are a few more titles from her donation:
• “The Witches” by Roald Dahl – A delightfully spooky and imaginative story about a young boy who uncovers a secret society of witches bent on turning children into mice.
• “Judy Moody Goes to College” by Megan McDonald – In this fun installment of the popular Judy Moody series, Judy finds herself attending college classes and learning to think in entirely new ways—complete with some hilarious surprises along the way.
• “Runaway Ralph” and “Ralph S. Mouse” by Beverly Cleary – These charming sequels follow the adventures of Ralph, a brave little mouse with a love for motorcycles, as he explores new places, makes new friends, and learns some important life lessons.
