Race still on for Adult Summer Reading through Aug. 28

Summer Reading through Aug. 28

Medicare consultant Carrie Blair will be at the library on Monday, Aug. 18, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to answer your questions about Medicare. Whether you’re enrolling for the first time or just need help understanding your options, this is a great opportunity to get answers in person.

Back-to-school season is here, and thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library and many wonderful donors, we’ve already been able to provide school supplies to over 80 Dickens County students and teachers this year an exciting increase from previous years. We still have plenty of supplies on hand, so if your child needs anything to get started in school, please stop by the library.

Our Adult Summer Reading Contest is still going strong. Open to ages 18 and over with a valid library card, this contest rewards you with one ticket in the prize drawing for every three books you read audio and e-books count, too. Please turn in your reading logs by Tuesday, August 27. The drawing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, live on Facebook.

We’ve also added some wonderful children’s books to our shelves thanks to recent donations:

• “I Wished for You: An Adoption Story for Kids” by Mary Ann Richmond. A sweet and reassuring tale that celebrates the love between adoptive parents and their children.

• “How a Book is Made” by Elizabeth Miles. A fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at the journey from idea to finished book, perfect for curious young readers.

• “The Ugly Vegetables” by Grace Lin. A heartwarming story about gardening, family traditions, and appreciating beauty in all its forms, told with Lin’s charming illustrations.

• “Two Cool Coyotes” by Jillian Lund. A lively, brightly illustrated tale of friendship and fun featuring two very cool coyote pals.

Check it out at the library.
