LIBRARY NOTES

Adult Summer Reading drawing takes place Aug. 28

As summer winds down, we’re reflecting on the incredible generosity and community spirit that made this year’s School Supply Drive our most successful yet. Thanks to the kindness of donors, volunteers, and local supporters, we were able to assist nearly 100 Dickens County students a remarkable increase from our usual average of 60. Your contributions helped ensure that every child started the school year with the tools they need to thrive. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

We’d also like to extend a special thank-you to Spur ISD and Patton Springs ISD for their thoughtful donation of children’s books to the library. These additions will enrich our youth collection and spark imaginations for years to come.

We are deeply honored to have received a memorial in tribute to William Barlow Reeves, a devoted reader and steadfast supporter of our library. Mr. Reeves believed in the power of books to transform lives, and his legacy will continue to inspire our mission of literacy and learning.

Don’t forget, the Adult Summer Reading Contest Drawing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 2:00 p.m. To enter, simply submit a list of books you’ve read this summer (minimum of three titles). Each entry will be placed into a drawing for a special prize. Whether you’ve devoured thrillers, romances, or biographies, we want to celebrate your reading journey!

Thanks to a generous grant from the Tocker Foundation, we’ve added several compelling large print books to our collection. Here’s a peek at what’s new:

• “The Idaho Four: An American Tragedy” by James Patterson and Vicky Ward. A gripping true crime account of the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students. This book blends forensic detail with emotional depth, offering insight into the victims, the investigation, and the broader social impact.

• “Edge of Honor” by Brad Thor. America’s top spy, Scot Harvath, returns to face a deadly conspiracy threatening national security. With shadowy elites vying for control, Harvath must navigate betrayal and high-stakes politics in this adrenaline-fueled thriller.

• “Caring for the Amish Family” by Amy Clipston. In this heartwarming romance, widow Regina Weaver takes a job caring for a child to hide her financial struggles. As old feelings rekindle with Amish widower Everett Zook, both must confront secrets and rediscover love and faith.
