I am always excited when we get a new family in town and one of the first places they check out is the library.
A few weeks ago a new family to Spur came into the library, and all of them got library cards. The two older boys asked about several books series that we did not have here. I told them is we really need input about what books or genres kids their age like to read, then I told them to fill out the names of the series and put them in the suggestion box. A few days after their visit I remembered to look in the suggestion box. I was able to purchase for the library a few of the series they suggested.
“The Wild Robot” by Dreamworks is one of this year’s most popular children’s movies. It was based on a series written by bestselling and award-winning author Peter Brown. This heartwarming and action-packed series is about what happens when technology and nature collide. The three books in the series are “The Wild Robot,” “The Wild Robot Escapes,” and “The Wild Robot Protects.”
From bestselling author Max Brallier we have the first six books in the highly rated “The Last Kids on Earth” series. In “The Last Kids on Earth,” forty-two days ago, Jack, was just an ordinary kid living an uneventful life. But now it total monster zombie chaos and he’s battling beasts on a daily basis. The names of the other books in the series we have are, “The Zombie Parade,” “The Nightmare King,” “The Cosmic Beyond,” “The Midnight Blade” and “The Skeleton Road.”
The third series will probably appeal to children a little older than the first two. Rick Yancy’s The 5th Wave collection includes “The 5th Wave,” “The Infinite Sea” and “The Last Star.” Entertainment Weekly had to say this about the series: “Remarkable, notto- be-missed-under-anycircumstances.” USA Today called it a modern sci-fi masterpiece, and New York Times book reviewer Justin Cronin said, “Wildly entertaining . . . I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.”
Check it all out at the library.
