The number one movie in U.S. box office returns for 2025 to date, “A Minecraft Movie,” will be showing at The Palace Theater in downtown Spur. Saturday, Aug. 9—thanks to the sponsorship of Dickens County’s own Galaxy Digital AI data center.
The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. and the movie plays at 7:00 p.m. The theater is located at 422 Burlington Ave. in Spur.
Rated PG-13, the movie is based on the widely popular video game and stars Jack Black. The premise of the film is that four misfits are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into a bizarre cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a quest with an unexpected expert crafter.
Admission is free for all area elementary, middle and hich school students, including those who are home-schooled. Adult admission is $5, and a wide range of concession snacks and popcorn will be available for purchase as a fundraiser for the Dickens County Historical Commission, which operates the historic Palace Theater.
